This was the first opportunity that I had had while studying on the MA, to install work in the foyer at the School of Art.
I had been making a series of books containing drawings of stones while following Tim Brennan’s ‘A Drawing Ceremony’ and I really wanted to display these for people to see and to interact with.
These aren’t simply a two-dimensional piece of work that could be framed; I was keen that the books could be fully experienced, the pages turned.
This led me to making the white ‘containers’ to house them, taking reference from archives.
On first viewing, people were hesitant to touch them as this is not normally acceptable with artworks, but with some encouragement the pages were turned.
